Scarlett weilded her wand at her opponent.
Was she always so stubborn? Or was he just stupid enough to egg her on? “I see that I’ve shown myself in a bad light, so until your impression of me changes, I’m not going anywhere,” Roger remarked confidently. There was still no budging on his part. |

He gaped at the Slytherin girl in disbelief. What? Come on, he couldn’t be in the wrong! He was clearly having his fun! And he was not shallow at all! He did go for girls that wore glasses, too, okay. “Come on, Lympsham, I was just messing around with you! You don’t think I’m a jerk, do you?” He refused to budge. |

He strode into the Hospital Wing, a smug grin on his face as he signed his name on the visitors’ sheet.“Yes, Roger Davies here to see Katie Bell,” he recited aloud as he wrote the same down on the parchment. |

Her smooth delivery of Shakespearean prose intrigued him; he’d in the past hardly met a woman that dabbled in the works of what most wizards considered to be an amateur writer (and a Muggle one at that!), but Ms. Lympsham was proving to be an interesting one. (There was only one other girl he considered worth interest to himself, but this was no time to be thinking about her. She was probably sending love letters in some sexy Japanese dialect to her Japanese beau anyway.) Her [Scarlett’s] presence still befuddled him, though. How had she managed to slip past his radar without being spotted by the likes of him? He usually had a knack for this sort of thing; attractive transfer girls would show up and he would make it his personal job to be a one-man welcoming committee. With students that had always been here, though, Roger knew every one of them by name. Of course, most of them he did. He was Head Boy, after all, and it was a right boast of his to claim that he could name every student he laid eyes on. The attractive, pretty ones (preferably female), at least. Unless that was exactly the reason… His eyebrows rose with hinted amusement and his ears wiggled slightly as he portrayed his one-of-a-kind smirk. In fact, her face did seem familiar, now that the reason for her status at this school cleared up slightly. “Say, Miss Lympsham…if my memory serves me correctly, you haven’t exactly been the easiest on eyes until earlier this year.” His smile grew. ‘In fact, every year up until now, you’ve been the bearer of thick glasses, askew braces, and hair that shadowed your face wherever you went. You never stood with your back straight, and you did your best to stay unnoticed in the corridors, keeping to yourself when being called out by the other Slytherin girls that weren’t accepting of you. They teased you relentlessly, know? I remember docking points from them for that, but you always managed to slide away whenever I turned back to you. I never did get to see your face long enough to have it register completely in my mind. But you were bullied often by those girls, which is why you found solace in the testosterone-bearing half of the Slytherins in your class. In short, you’ve always been an ugly duckling until now, where I clearly see that you’ve matured and developed into a beautiful swan. Isn’t that right, Scarlett?” |

He shot another begrudging look at Corner (why didn’t you leave her to partner up with me, was what he thought). His attention returned to Scarlett, and he coolly swiped the bottom of his lip with his thumb. “Can’t say I’ve seen you around before. What are you? Transfer? Or have I simply been too blind to notice such exquisite beauty?” he quoted. Had he even quoted anything? Ah, screw it. If Romeo could have gotten the Juliet chick with a glance from across the room, he could surely win some Scarlett-approval points with a smattering of words. Most girls, he remembered, liked it when guys quoted books. Or at least, that was the case with Chang. He used to see Diggory do it all the time when he would drop by the Ravenclaw Tower. In fact, lots of Ravenclaw girls were into the guys-quoting-favorite-books thing. Perhaps it was one of their nerdy traits that were usually becoming of a female Eagle. Roger continued to smile. “I’m guessing Beauxbatons transfer?” |

After he’d scolded the bumbling Corner for shaming them all in front of Snape, Roger had deliberately made his way up to the blonde beaut lingering near the doorway. He smoothed out the front of his crisp jumper and flashed a dashing smile. “Hello,” he said, extending a hand as he suavely introduced himself. “Roger Davies is my name. I couldn’t help but notice the way you mastered your spell so easily. What was that? Rictusempra?” |

Su Li/Roger: Endless Day 2 in Japan
He hadn’t slept at all last night. Not. A. Damn. Wink. Very much tired and sleep-deprived, Roger rubbed the crick in the back of his neck and thought of Su. She’d popped up constantly in his thoughts last night, and the sight of her crying replayed in his mind, making him feel guilty for the entire six hours of sleep he never got.
He hoped she was okay. |
